Sinopse | Synopsis

PT | Instalação pictórica e escultórica que procura explorar a relação simbólica entre o ser humano e o animal e a complexidade da relações racional/irracional, inconsciente/inconsciente.

Através de figuras surrealizantes, híbridas e/ou antropomórficas entre o humano e o animal, a proposta recupera métodos do Surrealismo para criar espaços e narrativas insólitas que equacionam a condição humana na sua essência mais íntima.

A escolha do animal como figura central é uma metáfora para os instintos primários e inconscientes que permanecem latentes no ser humano, mesmo num contexto de civilização e racionalidade. Ao dar forma a estas criaturas e colocando-as em confronto com o observador, estas questionam até que ponto a nossa humanidade está dissociada da nossa animalidade e como essa tensão molda as nossas relações com o mundo natural, social, político, etc.

A estranheza das composições de figuras humana, animal ou homem-animal apresentadas, bem como a sua colocação no espaço tendo em conta as interações que terão com o observador, pretendem desafiar uma lógica racional e abrir espaço para novas hipóteses de interpretação: é um convite à introspeção acerca temas tais como a dicotomia entre instinto e razão, as hierarquias sociais (animais e humanas), impacto da domesticação do ser humano, entre outros.

Ultimamente, no mundo contemporâneo, onde as relações entre humanos e animais são mediadas por questões éticas e ecológicas, este projeto procura também pensar o vínculo ancestral entre o Homem e outras espécies. Mais do que uma simples representação artística, o projeto configura-se como uma investigação sobre os limites da nossa própria humanidade, utilizando o simbolismo animal como lente para explorar dimensões psicológicas, instintivas e relacionais que nos definem enquanto seres complexos e contraditórios.

ENG | A pictorial and sculptural installation that seeks to express the symbolic relationship between human beings and animals and the complexity of rational/irrational, unconscious/unconscious relationships.

Through surreal, hybrid and/or anthropomorphic figures between human and animal, the proposal recovers Surrealist methods to create unusual spaces and narratives that equate the human condition in its most intimate essence.

The choice of the animal as the central figure is a metaphor for the primary and unconscious instincts that remain latent in the human being, even in a context of civilization and rationality. By giving form to these creatures and placing them in confrontation with the viewer, they question the extent to which our humanity is dissociated from our animality and how this tension shapes our relationships with the natural, social and political world, etc.

The strangeness of the compositions of human, animal or man-animal figures presented, as well as their placement in space, taking into account the interactions they will have with the observer, are intended to challenge rational logic and open up space for new hypotheses of interpretation: it is an invitation to introspect on themes such as the dichotomy between instinct and reason, social hierarchies (animal and human), the impact of the domestication of human beings, among others.

Lately, in the contemporary world, where relations between humans and animals are mediated by ethical and ecological issues, this project also seeks to think about the ancestral bond between man and other species. More than a simple artistic representation, the project is configured as an investigation into the limits of our own humanity, using animal symbolism as a lens to explore the psychological, instinctive and relational dimensions that define us as complex and contradictory beings.

Sobre | About - Sara Alves

PT | Nascida em Lisboa, onde ainda hoje reside, Sara Alves frequenta atualmente, o mestrado de Museologia e Museografia na Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa. Concluiu, em 2023, a licenciatura em Pintura na FBAUL. A sua obra artística enquadra-se, essencialmente, na arte figurativa e no surrealismo.

ENG | Born in Lisbon, where she still lives today, Sara Alves is currently studying for a master's degree in Museology and Museography at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. She completed her degree in Painting at FBAUL in 2023. Her artistic work is essentially based on figurative art and surrealism.
