Sinopse | Synopsis

PT | Reviralha é a criação de um novo conceito baseado no que era ser mulher durante a ditadura salazarista em Portugal. O nome significa oposição, dar a volta, dar um novo rumo, usado para descrever as muitas tentativas que foram sendo feitas contra a Ditadura Nacional, inicialmente incluindo os seus participantes e apoiantes de uma forma depreciativa.

De acordo com o código de vestuário da época, as mulheres não podiam usar calças e não podiam mostrar os joelhos quando usavam uma saia, o que era considerado indecente. Para irem às aulas, as que iam tinham de medir as saias à entrada da sala. Não podia ser inferior a três dedos abaixo do joelho.

Sara criou uma peça de roupa, que pode ser uma saia ou um par de calças, que mostra apenas os joelhos. O objetivo é representar uma imagem metafórica que represente essa censura, caminhando e empurrando esta saia/calça comprida e pesada. Este é um grito de liberdade.

ENG | Reviralha is the creation of a new concept based on what was being a woman during the Salazar dictatorship in Portugal. The name stands for opposition, to turn around, to give a new direction, Used to describe the many attempts that were being made against the National Dictatorship, initially including its participants and supporters in a derogatory way.

According to the dress code at the time, women could not wear pants and could not show their knees when wearing a skirt, which was considered indecent. To go to classes, those who did, had their skirts measured at the entrance to the classroom. It couldn't be less than three fingers below the knee.

Sara created a piece of clothing that may be a skirt or may be a pair of pants that shows only the knees. The goal is to represent a metaphorical image that represents that censorship by walking and pushing this long and heavy skirt/pants. This is a scream for freedom.

PT | Sara Massa (2002) nasceu na ilha de São Miguel, Açores. É licenciada em Arte Multimédia pela Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa.

Na sua prática artística, interessa-se por aquilo que as pessoas evitam por ser desconhecido e estranho, especialmente quando se trata de desigualdade.

Partindo de conceitos existentes e limitados, a artista utiliza imagens simbólicas e metafóricas que evidenciam novas idealizações como forma de não combater o preconceito mas de criar um novo conceito.

O ponto de transição entre os dois locais onde vive, São Miguel e Lisboa, é onde ela realmente vive. A cidade é uma biblioteca, a ilha é um estúdio e no meio está tudo o que existe aqui.

ENG | Sara Massa (2002) was born on the island of São Miguel, Azores. She has a degree in Multimedia Art from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon.

In her artistic practise, she's interested in what people avoid because it's unknown and strange, especially when it comes to inequality. Starting from existing and limited concepts, the artist uses symbolic and metaphorical images that highlight new idealizations as a form of not fighting prejudice but creating a new concept.

The transition point between the two places where she lives, São Miguel and Lisbon, is where she really lives. The city is a library, the island is a studio and in between is everything that is here.
