Sinopse | Synopsis

PT | O objetivo deste projeto é revisitar e finalmente completar um documentário ficcional em que o artista tem vindo a trabalhar há algum tempo. É construído a partir de imagens que gravou em dois momentos muito diferentes da sua vida: primeiro, como estudante de Erasmus em Veneza, e depois, cinco anos mais tarde, quando regressou à mesma cidade, desta vez como funcionário de um museu.

A reutilização deste projeto para comprimir tudo num vídeo de três a quatro minutos tem como objetivo oferecer ao público uma reflexão visual sobre a relação do artista com o colecionismo, os museus enquanto instituições, e a forma como estes moldaram o seu percurso pessoal e artístico. Mas, em vez de seguir uma estrutura documental tradicional, o vídeo joga com a montagem, a fragmentação e as justaposições, espelhando a forma como as nossas mentes percepcionam padrões, ligações e saltos no tempo.

Enquanto pintor figurativo, a prática do artista mistura design gráfico, fotografia digital e vídeo, explorando constantemente a tensão entre precisão técnica e execução manual. Neste caso, o artista quer traduzir essa abordagem para o filme, utilizando imagens pessoais que evoluíram ao longo do tempo, sobrepondo-as como pinceladas. Tal como as suas pinturas são construídas a partir de um arquivo de imagens pré-existentes que ele reinterpreta livremente, este documentário será criado a partir de gravações passadas, reimaginadas com um novo significado.

O vídeo incluirá uma voz-off, não como uma explicação direta, mas como um guia poético e alegórico, dando uma visão daquilo em que o artista está a trabalhar agora.

ENG | The goal of this project is to revisit and finally complete a fictional documentary that the artist has been working on for a while. It’s built from footage he recorded at two very different moments in his life: first, as a Fine Arts Erasmus student in Venice, and then, five years later, when he returned to the same city, this time as a museum worker.

Repurposing this project to compress everything into a three to four minute video is aimed to offer the public a visual reflection on the artist’s relationship with collecting, museums as institutions, and how they’ve shaped his personal and artistic journey. But instead of following a traditional documentary structure, the video plays with montage, fragmentation, and juxtapositions, mirroring the way our minds perceive patterns, connections, and jumps in time.

As a figurative painter, the artist’s practice blends graphic design, digital photography, and video, constantly exploring the tension between technical precision and manual execution. In this case, he wants to translate that approach into film using personal footage that has evolved over time, layering it like brushstrokes. Just as his paintings are built from an archive of preexisting images that he freely reinterpret, this documentary will be crafted from past recordings, reimagined with new meaning.

The video will include a voice-over, not as a straightforward explanation, but as a poetic and allegorical guide, giving insight into what the artist is working on now and what keeps him painting. More than telling a clear-cut story, he is looking to create a space that balances coherence and confusion, where reality and fiction blend, and where museum objects are no longer just passive artifacts but claim a presence of their own. This video will act as a starting point for the project the artist will be developing during the residency and final exhibition. Through a non-linear structure and an introspective approach, he aims to capture how memory, art, and time continuously reshape both artists and the images we create and preserve.

PT | Jaime González Palencia é um artista visual e mediador cultural de Maiorca, com uma sólida formação em Belas Artes e uma carreira internacional. Licenciou-se na Faculdade de San Carlos da Universidade Politécnica de Valência e alargou a sua formação através de um intercâmbio Erasmus na Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia e de um mestrado em Pintura e Design na Universidade de Ciências Aplicadas de Hanze, nos Países Baixos, onde recebeu a mais alta distinção de tese em 2022.

O seu trabalho interdisciplinar combina pintura, design gráfico, fotografia digital e vídeo, explorando temas de percepção fragmentada, narrativas não lineares e as intersecções de identidade e memória. As peças de Jaime foram expostas em instituições e eventos culturais de prestígio, como a NP3 Gallery em Groningen (RE:present#122), a Supermarket Art Fair em Estocolmo, e PANORAMA 7 na Fran Reus Gallery em Maiorca ou a feira de arte FARRA na Galeria Plato, Évora, Portugal. Também realizou exposições individuais, nomeadamente no Espacio Lavadero em Granada e no Casal de Cultura em Bunyola, Maiorca.

A sua experiência profissional inclui residências na Art Holland House e La Raya, em Portugal, e um estágio na Coleção Peggy Guggenheim, em Veneza, onde aperfeiçoou os seus conhecimentos em mediação cultural.

Como pintor figurativo, Jaime integra elementos de design gráfico, fotografia digital e vídeo, influenciado por artistas como Perer Llobera, Luc Tuymans, Bonnard ou Luis Gordillo. O seu trabalho explora a tensão entre precisão técnica e execução manual, revelando um fascínio pelo potencial do meio para reinterpretar fontes.

ENG | Jaime González Palencia is a visual artist and cultural mediator from Mallorca with a solid foundation in Fine Arts and an international career. He graduated from the Faculty of San Carlos at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and expanded his education through an Erasmus exchange at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia and a Master’s degree in Painting and Design from the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, where he received the highest thesis distinction in 2022.

His interdisciplinary work combines painting, graphic design, digital photography, and video, exploring themes of fragmented perception, nonlinear narratives, and the intersections of identity and memory. Jaime’s pieces have been showcased at prestigious cultural institutions and events, such as NP3 Gallery in Groningen (RE:present#122), the Supermarket Art Fair in Stockholm, and PANORAMA 7 at Fran Reus Gallery in Mallorca or the art fair FARRA at Galeria Plato, Évora, Portugal. He has also held solo exhibitions, notably at Espacio Lavadero in Granada and Casal de Cultura in Bunyola, Mallorca.

His professional experience spans residencies at Art Holland House and La Raya in Portugal and an internship at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, where he honed his expertise in cultural mediation.
