PT | Mimese é um projeto que reúne performances ao vivo, esculturas, fotografias e vídeos, todos convergindo em torno do tema central da redefinição dos limites entre sujeito e objeto, convidando os espectadores a envolverem-se ativamente com os efeitos do mimetismo.

Peças de madeira desenhadas com base na anatomia humana e animal, aliadas às geometrias dos utensílios do quotidiano, tornam-se canais para explorar as ligações entre o corpo humano e os objetos inanimados. A exploração deliberada da distância entre os dois, leva os espectadores a questionar as suas percepções, desafiando-os a investigar as distorções causadas pelo mimetismo e suscitanto a contemplação da fluidez da identidade na interação entre as formas desenhadas.

Parte integrante do projeto são as performances que contam com a presença da artista para ativar as peças de madeira. Estas performances oferecem uma camada dinâmica às obras estáticas. Uma coreografia de manipulação, inspirada nos movimentos necessários para alcançar e girar as peças de diferentes maneiras, cria um diálogo entre a artista, as esculturas e o espaço.

As fotografias e vídeos partem da documentação visual das ações, captando momentos em que o corpo e o objeto se envolvem numa coreografia improvisada de movimentos possíveis. Através dos mecanismos de rotação, as peças de madeira ampliam os limites do corpo, estabelecendo uma relação simbiótica entre a forma humana e os objetos trabalhados.

Inspirado nas grandes referências da arte concreta brasileira, como Ligia Clark e os seus icónicos “Bichos”, além de designs de móveis modernistas, Mimese homenageia essas influências ao mesmo tempo em que forja uma narrativa que passa por diferentes mídias.

A estrutura modular dos objetos, não só apresente uma variedade de configurações, mas também abre possibilidades de implantação em diversos contextos e escalas.

ENG | Mimese is a project that brings together live performances, sculptures, photographs and videos, all converging around the central theme of redefining the boundaries between subject and object, inviting viewers to actively engage with the effects of mimicry.

Wooden pieces designed on the basis of human and animal anatomy, combined with the geometries of everyday utensils, become channels for exploring the links between the human body and inanimate objects. The deliberate exploration of the distance between the two leads viewers to question their perceptions, challenging them to investigate the distortions caused by mimicry and prompting contemplation of the fluidity of identity in the interaction between the drawn forms.

An integral part of the project are performances in which the artist activates the wooden pieces. These performances offer a dynamic layer to the static works. A choreography of manipulation, inspired by the movements needed to reach and turn the pieces in different ways, creates a dialog between the artist, the sculptures and the space.

The photographs and videos are based on visual documentation of the actions, capturing moments in which the body and the object are involved in an improvised choreography of possible movements. Through the mechanisms of rotation, the wooden pieces extend the limits of the body, establishing a symbiotic relationship between the human form and the objects worked on.

Inspired by the great references of Brazilian concrete art, such as Ligia Clark and her iconic “Bichos”, as well as modernist furniture designs, Mimese pays homage to these influences while forging a narrative that passes through different media.

The modular structure of the objects not only presents a variety of configurations, but also opens up possibilities for deployment in different contexts and scales..

PT | Aline Setton é uma artista brasileira que vive entre São Paulo, Brasil, Toronto, Canadá e Lisboa, Portugal. Os seus estudos em arquitetura e experiências em diferentes países aparecem como bases que se desdobram na sua pesquisa.

Desenvolve trabalhos caracterizados por composições labirínticas enigmáticas e diálogos entre corpo, objetos e arquitetura a partir de paisagens reais e imaginadas. Participou de diversas residências artísticas. Os seus trabalhos foram exibidos na exposição individual Interiores, Galeria Murilo Castro, São Paulo, Canadá (2024); Lupa, Ap’Arte, Porto, Portugal (2019) e em exposições coletivas, entre elas: Olho d’Agua na Fonte Gallery, Brasil (2023); SP-Art Fair, Cassia Bomeny Gallery, Brasil (2023); 4ª Bienal Internacional de Arte de Gaia, Portugal (2021); Making Spaces na Sur Gallery, Toronto, Canadá (2020); Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, Canadá, onde recebeu o prêmio de Melhor Pintura (2019). O seu trabalho faz parte da coleção permanente do Museu de Belas Artes do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.

ENG | Biography: Aline Setton is a Brazilian artist who lives between São Paulo, Brazil, Toronto, Canada and Lisbon, Portugal. Her studies in architecture and experiences in different countries are the foundations of her research.

Her artwork is characterized by enigmatic labyrinthine compositions and dialogues between the body, objects and architecture based on real and imagined landscapes. She has taken part in several artistic residencies. Her work has been shown in the solo exhibition Interiores, Galeria Murilo Castro, São Paulo, Canada (2024); Lupa, Ap'Arte, Porto, Portugal (2019) and in group exhibitions, including: Olho d'Agua at Fonte Gallery, Brazil (2023); SP-Art Fair, Cassia Bomeny Gallery, Brazil (2023); 4th Gaia International Art Biennial, Portugal (2021); Making Spaces at Sur Gallery, Toronto, Canada (2020); Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, Canada, where he received the Best Painting award (2019). His work is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
